Steps of Bishop Walk

This is a lovely, gentle sponsored 5 mile Walk from Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge through Newnham, along the river to Grantchester and on to Haslingfield for a sandwich lunch eaten in All Saints’ Church, in the Steps of Bishop Mackenzie.

While based in Cambridge, Bishop Mackenzie led All Saints’ Church before setting out as a missionary to what is now Malawi, meeting Livingston, being made Bishop, and rescuing many slaves whilst there; he is still highly revered throughout that country.  Have you seen our beautiful stained glass widow in commemoration of his life? It shows a fascinating history in a lovely but desperately poor country.

We raise funds for MACS to help improve the education of children and the health of mothers and their babies. Also to initiate small schemes which help create new employment opportunities in the poorest rural villages.  All the money raised is managed by MACS reps to ensure it goes directly to the village to avoid potential loss through corruption.  All money and gifts are given openly at a meeting with the village chief so that the whole village knows about it.

Please come and join the walk or if you can’t make it, you might want to sponsor a very worthwhile cause.
