There was a very good turnout for Haslingfield Village Remembrance Sunday this year – 54 children and about 70 adults. The local Scouts, Cubs and Brownies paraded, Rev’d Becca led the service and Rev’d David Lewis preached. He told the story of two boys, one Japanese, one English, both living in Shanghai when the Japanese overran it. They became friends after the war and are now working for forgiveness and reconciliation between China and Japan and Far East Prisoners of War.
John Benyon masterminded the Remembrance event round the Village War Memorial. Wreaths were laid by the Parish Council, and the Uniformed Organisations placed individual crosses, each with a poppy attached. In memory of his brother Kelan, Liam Turrington laid a wreath. Jenny Gore read out the names on the memorial, Isobel Jukes played the Last Post and then Reveille on the trumpet.
One of our church Sunday Club groups made a wreath for the occasion and a class at the village Primary School made a superb carpet of poppies which was placed behind the memorial.
