People from across Haslingfield came together for a very special ecumenical service to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday. We enjoyed being outdoors with our coffee and croissants for the service on the recreation ground. Revd. Alison Walker presided and she honoured more than forty clubs and societies that make our village so special. Revd. Becca Gilbert gave an address that taught us a thing or two about the Queen and, more importantly, about her faith. The rain (mostly) held off and the village celebrated with a wonderful orchestra of all ages in the marquee under the direction of Helen Juckes. There was also a choir conducted by José Hopkins, who sang John Rutter’s much-loved anthem ‘The Lord Bless you and Keep You’. It was a joyous occasion and we were all thankful that the rain didn’t start until the very end!
