On Saturday 24th September, the 8th annual sponsored walk took place to commemorate Bishop Charles Mackenzie who assisted the Vicar at Haslingfield before he left in 1855 for Magomero, in what is now Malawi. Thirteen walkers assembled in the chapel of Gonville and Caius College for a short service prior to the walk. On a sunny day, the walk from the college passed through Newnham, Granchester and across the fields to Haslingfield Parish Church, the route which the Bishop would have taken. Refreshments were welcome at the conclusion of a very happy occasion. Bishop Mackenzie’s memorial window may be seen at the east end of the south aisle in Haslingfield Church.
